Riverside Steam & Vintage Vehicle Rally After the triumph of last year’s event it was only a matter of time before the Riverside Steam & Vintage Vehicle Rally rolled back into town. The event, which was graced by glorious weather and attended by some 6,000 people last year, helped in raising over £30,000 for local charities and it is on the back of this huge success that the much anticipated announcement of a follow up event has been made, scheduled to take place over the weekend of 17-18th April 2010.
Not to be outdone by last year’s festivities, this year’s event will play host to the centenary celebrations of “Prospector”, a Foden Showman’s Engine, built in Cheshire in 1910 and the last surviving engine of its kind in the world, alongside this you can expect to see over 500 other steam and vintage vehicle exhibits, including vintage steam trains, miniature steam engines, tractors, buses, steam engines, gallopers & organs and classic & bikes cars.
Not only should this all prove a truly mouth-watering prospect to any steam or vintage enthusiast, but their long-suffering wives, partners and children will be relieved to learn that with attractions including health, beauty and fashion stands, fairground and donkey rides, toy stalls, a miniature railway and with Michelin-starred chef Nigel
Another addition to this year event will be the inclusion of a lady’s marquee where hairdressers, beauticians, manicurists and make up artists will be waiting to pamper lucky guests and provide new idea’s as to the latest fashions and trends. The lady’s marquee will also feature a number of vintage and modern clothing stores, florists, home wear stalls and jewellery stores along with a live catwalk show.
With all this going on and more still to be confirmed, there really is something for all the family to enjoy a fun filled day at Riverside Steam & Vintage Vehicle Rally. Gates open from 10am on 17th & 18th April and admission is charged at £6 for adults, £3 for children and under 11’s get in for free. All proceeds raised from the event are to be donated to local charities and, along with the continuing support of the Preston South and Kirham & Rural Flyde Rotary International Clubs, we are hoping to top the amount raised 2009.
For those wishing to drive to the event, car parking is provided free of charge on an adjacent site and, for those who want to avoid the hassle, the 47 bus from Southport stops in the main car park at the front of the site every 30 minutes.
